Stuart, FLoBoat buying is a daunting but exciting experience and can be easily overwhelming if a buyer has not fully thought through why theyire buying in addition to how they will buy their boat. At this summeris northeast Trawler Fest in Greenport, New York, June 26-28th Kadey-Krogen Yachts partner John Gear, will present a seminar on boat buying basics to an audience of well-qualified consumers as they go through the process of entering the cruising-under-power market.
John Gear grew up on and around the Great Lakes. His interest in boats started at an early age with homemade rafts, row boats, ski boats, and sailboats. He continued to pursue his interest in boats after college and jumped at any and all opportunities to get on the water. A series of fortuitous events led him to purchase the Edward B. Freeman Yacht Brokerage in Stuart, Florida, in 1976. In the early 1980s, other business opportunities presented themselves and he changed course for the next 12 years, but he was always close to the water. After successfully selling those businesses John imessed around in boatsi for a year before deciding to re-enter the brokerage business. Having owned a Krogen (his only power boat among numerous sailboats), he welcomed the opportunity to join Kadey-Krogen Yachts in 2002, concentrating on brokerage sales. He is primarily responsible for the brokerage operations and has earned the Certified Professional Yacht Broker designation.
